Maldives or Bora Bora? How to Pick the Right Overwater Honeymoon
A real comparison of the Maldives vs. Bora Bora for an overwater honeymoon. Who each one is for, what to know before you book, and how to decide between them.
Both deliver the bucket-list overwater bungalow shot. The trips themselves are very different.
The Maldives is the easier sell for a slow, do-nothing honeymoon. One resort, one island, a butler, a snorkel reef out your front door, and a week of not making a single decision. Flights are long but the payoff is the most photogenic water on the planet.
Bora Bora is closer to the U.S. (relatively), greener, more dramatic, and pairs well with a Tahiti or Moorea opener. The water isn't quite Maldives-clear, but the volcanic peak in every photo more than makes up for it.
Pick the Maldives if you want a sealed-in luxury bubble and don't mind 20+ hours of flying. Pick Bora Bora if you want jungle plus lagoon, a shorter haul from the U.S., and a multi-island honeymoon.
